Freddy "Fred" Raymond Fry, age 69 of Baxter Springs, Kansas passed from this life Saturday, December 5, 2009 at St. John's Regional Medical Center.

Fred was born December 7, 1939 in Ottawa County, Oklahoma to the union of Jesse and Vergie "Morton" Fry.

Fred worked for the Cherokee County Sheriff's Department as a Jailor.

He had also worked at Eagle Picher as a welder.

He served in the United States Army from 1962-1964. He was stationed in Alaska when the big earthquake hit.

He was a member of the American Legion.

Fred is preceded in death by his parents and one brother Jack Fry.

Survivors include three sisters Eleanor Moncrief of Lowell, Ks; Barbara Cook and husband Bob of Carl Junction. Mo; and Linda Elliott and husband Curtis of Midland, Tx. Two brothers, Jesse Fry and wife Syble of Baxter Springs, Ks; Bob Fry and Judy Marcum of Seneca, Mo. Along with many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 8, 2009 at Derfelt's Baxter Chapel. Pastor Clause Craig will officiate the services.

Burial will follow in the Lowell Cemetery.

Family will receive friends from 6:00- 8:00 p.m., Monday evening at Derfelt's Baxter Chapel.

In Lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association or the American Cancer Association.

QUAPAW, Okla. -- Vergie L. Fry, 78, rural Quapaw, died at 12:05 p.m. Tuesday at St. John's Regional Medical Center, Joplin, after a long illness.

Mrs. Fry was born May 22, 1916, in Quapaw. She was a lifetime area resident.

She was a nurse's aide, working for Baxter Memorial Hospital, Baxter Springs, Kan.

She was a member of First Assembly of God, Baxter Springs.

She married Jesse E. Fry on Feb. 5, 1931, at Columbus, Kan. He died Oct. 2, 1964.

Survivors include three sons, Jesse Fry Jr. and Freddie Fry, both of Baxter Springs, and Bob Fry, Joplin; three daughters, Eleanor Moncrief, Lowell, Kan., Barbara Dawson, Quapaw, and Linda Walkenshaw, Midland, Texas; five sisters, Erma Miller, Phoenix, Ariz., Nadine Laney, Imogene Chambers, and Wanda Giovango, all of Taft, Calif., and Ina Mae Adams, Peoria, Okla; 19 Grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are Pending with Derfelt's Baxter Chapel, Baxter Springs.

QUAPAW, Okla. -- Services for Vergie L. Fry, 78, rural Quapaw, who died Tuesday, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Derfelt's Baxter Chapel, Baxter Springs, Kan.

The Rev. Dwight D. Dozier will officiate.

Burial will be in Gandy Cemetery in the Rest-A-While community in Cherokee County, Kan.

Pallbearers will be Luthur Boyd, Lester King, Tom Daniels, Bob Wyatt, Howard Simmons and Randolph Commons.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
