Religious Figure. He was a English Roman Catholic Cardinal with political influences. Cardinal Archbishop of York, and Lord Chancellor of England under Henry VIII from 1509 to 1530. Wolsey was chief advisor to Henry VIII and influenced both foreign and domestic policy, having more power than any other crown minister in English history. He is remembered as the builder of Hampton Court Palace in London. His downfall came after he failed to secure the annulment of the King's marriage to Catherine of Aragon, which caused him to lose the King's trust. Others then began the movement to separate the Church of England from papal authority in Rome. He was finally accused of treason and died on the way to London.
