Deseret News, Salt Lake City, Utah, August 4, 1939:

"Avery Timms Funeral Services Dated for Sunday - Final tribute will be paid Avery J. W. [W. J.] Timms, 78, former resident of Salt Lake, who died of a heart attack at his home in Los Angeles July 28, at services to be conducted at the Twenty-seventh Ward Sunday at 3 p.m.

Son of William and Mary Ann Avery Timms, he was born in Asterwoodbank, Worchester, Eng., May 23, 1861. He came to Salt Lake with his parents as a small boy.

In 1920 Mr. Timms moved to Los Angeles where he had been engaged in the contracting business with his son since that time.

Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Mary Ann Newson Timms; two sons, Avery N. and William Robert Timms of Los Angeles; four daughters, Mrs. J. S. Frank, New York City; Mrs. John M. Bennett, Los Angeles; Mrs. F. F. Wetzel and Mrs. C. L. Keate, Salt Lake; and a sister, Miss Ann D. A. Timms, Salt Lake.

Friends may call at 36 East Seventh South Street Sunday before 12 o'clock noon and at the chapel from 2 to 2:20 p.m. Interment will be in the City Cemetery."
