Leonard was a professional gardener and farmer
- After leaving his farm in Wainuiomata, he lived at Waitarere Beach for twenty years.
- he died aged 100
- he was living in the Horowhenua Hospital, Levin
- his ashes were buried on the 19th April 1988
- he is buried with Doris who died 3 years later aged 95

A family tree query has Leonard born c 1887 coming to New Zealand around 1904 with his brother Frederick Apperley - the link below says he worked on his uncle's farm in the South Island to repay the cost of his fare to New Zealand and he continued to work on the farm so that he could save to enable his brother to join him (perhaps another brother)
Frederick is buried in Foxton Cemetery
His parents were George Hiram Apperley and Lillian (Kate) Blackmore of Clifford's Mesne, near Newent, Herefordshire/Gloucestershire
