“Since we parted last May, we have lost by death two honored and highly esteemed Vice-Regents. On the 30th of November, Mrs. Julia Martha Johnston Andrews passed peacefully away at her home in Raleigh, NC. Although her service to our board was comparatively short, having received her appointment from Mrs. Townsend in 1909, she fully appreciated her responsibilities and took advantage of every opportunity to further the interests of Mount Vernon. Repeated generous gifts toward enabling us to secure Washington relics proved her splendid interest in this endeavor. She interested teachers’ associations, college girls and children in the public schools in Washington and his home-life at Mount Vernon, helping in this way to make good, patriotic American citizens of the boys and girls in her native State. Her noble qualities of heart deeply endeared her to her friends. She died as she had lived, calmly and serenely, and now she sleeps in peace and honor.”
