Funeral for Dewain M. Hemmerling, 70, will be at 11 a.m. today at Heritage United Church of Christ Chapel in Odessa. Burial will follow at Odessa Cemetery. Strate Funeral Home in Odessa is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Hemmerling, who was born in Lodi, Calif., died Friday.
In 1946 he graduated from Odessa High School and served in the Army during the Korean War.
He worked as a painter and carpenter and was a member of Heritage United Church of Christ, where he served as a deacon, was a member of the Church Board and the choir, and was their custodian.
Mr. Hemmerling was also a past commander of the American Legion and a past leader of the Odessa Boy Scouts.
Survivors include his wife, Betty; a son, Doug Hemmerling of Odessa; three daughters, Shari Hemmerling of Spokane, Rhonda Eik of Cheney and Mary Jo Stump of Tacoma; two brothers, Howard Hemmerling of Tacoma and Donald Hemmerling of Tukwila, Wash.; and a granddaughter.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Odessa Health Care Foundation or the American Cancer Society.
