RUSSELLVILLE — James D. Adams, 83, formerly of Logan County, died July 31, 2009, in Tacoma, Wash.

He was a 1944 graduate of Adairville High School and served in the Marines in Japan immediately after graduation. Following military service, he graduated from Southern Methodist University in Dallas. He worked in sales in the apparel industry until his retirement. He was a son of the late John Quincy Adams and Maritiza Adams of Schochoh and the husband of the late Doris Crouch Adams. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Neil Adams, Walter Richard "Dick" Adams and John Quincy "Johnny" Adams Jr.

Funeral is at 1 p.m. Thursday at Young Funeral Home, Russellville chapel, with burial in Maple Grove Cemetery. Visitation begins at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Survivors include a daughter, Jan Adams Taylor and her husband, Rick, of Brentwood; a son, Jim Adams and his wife, Janie, of Tacoma, Wash.; four sisters, Iris Lewis and her husband, Jim, of Dallas, Carol McElwain of Pleasantview, Tenn., Joann Nelson of Houston and Sandra Walton and her husband, Frank, of Allensville; a brother, Mark Adams of Nashville; four grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two great-stepgrandchildren. Local survivors include cousins, Margaret Adams Celsor and her husband, Ray, Eleanor Adams-McCormick and her husband, Gordon, Karen Allison Dunn and her husband, Sid, Ann Allison Horrell, Grace Allison Brown and her husband, Bob, and Jackie Willis Nicholson.
