In a book written by Josephine Minteer Dickinson, "The Minteers As I Have Known Them", refers to her mother Rachel as "quite an unusual woman. She reads Latin and Greek, having been educated in Philadelphia." After Thomas' death she is said to have travelled to Davenport, IA, to visit her sons John, Andrew (Mack) and Benjamine. Benjamine died before she arrived, and she died during her visit.
Her parents are buried together on the "Old Family Farm" with other Larimer ancestors in Donegal Twp., Westmoreland Co., PA.
Ellen married William Moorhead Hutchison on 17 Jan 1853. They had 6 children they named Joseph McCune, Isiah "Zade", David Shirey, Margaret "Elizabeth", Annie Amelia and James Sanford Hutchison.
Her husband's first wife was Ellen's sister Elizabeth. A little more than a year after she died in 1851 Ellen married William. When she died in 1867 he married a third time.
