H S Austin, 79, Buried Here
Hugh Sherman Austin, 79, a retired Houston mail carrier who served in that capacity for 22 years, died at his home here at 2:13 am, Monday.
Funeral services were conducted from the Memorial Funeral Home Tuesday at 2 pm, with the Rev. Robert Hollingsworth, and the Rev. Charles Lambert officiating. Interment was in the Houston Cemetery with Memorial Funeral Home in charge.
Pallbearers were: Oddie Austin of Memphis, Frank Austin and Rush Austin, both of Blytheville, Ark., Jamie Austin, and Milas Gann, all of Houston.
Mr. Austin was born Sept. 10, 1882. He was the son of Hirman Austin and Annie E Sumrill Austin. He was a member of the Arbor Grove Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Addie Bee Austin; six sons, William H Austin of Pine Bluff, Ark., O L Austin of Memphis, James and Robert Austin of Ellisville, Miss., Sherman Austin of Whittier, Calif., and Thomas Austin of Houston; five daughters, Miss Lucille Austin of Memphis, Mrs. O P Armour, Jr., of Houlka, Mrs. Louie Word and Mrs. Sherman May both of Memphis, and Mrs. Bates Triplett of Brooksville, Miss.; two brothers, Hamp Austin of Blytheville, Ark., and Albert Austin of Little Rock, Ark.; and a sister, Mrs. Amanda Gann of Houston. Twelve grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren also survive.
