She was born December 13, 1919 in Akron, to Joseph and Myrtle Yaukam Mathias, and was graduated from Mansfield Senior high School.
A lifelong Mansfield area resident, Marcella had worked as a physical therapist at Mansfield General Hospital for many years, worked at the Red and White Store, and at Essex Wire Company, retiring at age 65.
She had been a member of Marion Avenue Grace Brethren Church, where her father-in-law the Rev. James S. Cook was pastor, and more recently attended Berean Baptist Church.
A member of the Euchre Club at The Crossings, she loved playing cards and the socializing that came with it.
Marcella enjoyed gardening, cooking, and playing shuffleboard, and was and ardent Cleveland Indians fan, watching every game.
Her husband of 59 years Paul J. Cook, preceded her in death on March 27, 1999.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Paulette D. and Larry A. McKinney of Saginaw, Michigan; her son and daughter-in-law James J. and Sue Cook of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; six grandchildren Stacy L. (Cook) Thacker and Mindy R. (Cook) Pratali of Chicago, Illinois, Andrea S. Cook, Amanda J. Cook, and Sally M. Cook all of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and Rachelle M. McKinney of San Francisco, California; a great grandson Jacob Thacker; a two sisters-in-law Mildred Mathias of Mansfield and Helen Cook of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, and a brother-in-law Mark Cook of Akron.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers Bernard Mathias and Cedric Mathias; two brothers-in-law Orion Cook and Dr. David Cook and a sister-in-law Mildred Bertell.
The family will receive friends Friday, June 4, 2004 from 5-8 pm in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home, where the funeral service will be held Saturday at 11am. The Rev. Lester Vnasdale will officiate. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery.
