William Archibald Andrews was born on December 21, 1826, in Monroe County, Georgia, the son of Sterling Andrews and wife Elizabeth [Williams].

In the early 1850's William settled in Whitesville, Harris Co., GA, and became a successful dry goods merchant.

William A. Andrews married on October 21, 1854, in Harris Co., GA, to Sarah Frances [Cotton], who was born September 12, 1838, the daughter of Methodist Minister, Rev. James Gary Cotton and wife Ann Elizabeth [Burford].

In March, 1862, William enlisted in Company E, 46th Georgia Volunteer Infantry, a company he had organized, and was unanimously elected Captain. He was in the Battle of Charleston, Battle of Jacksonville, MS, and Chickamauga, where he was wounded in the right leg. Although disabled from the wound, he remained on duty until war's end.

After the War, William returned to Whitesville, GA, and resumed merchandising until he moved his family to Hood Co., TX, in c1878, where he established a 250+ acre farm. William was a Mason, having taken 9 degrees.

William Archibald Andrews died on January 20, 1900, Hood Co., TX. Sally [Cotton] Andrews died December 9, 1894, in Hood Co., TX.
