Joann Widby of Miami died Friday, Nov. 20, 2009, at Landmark Hospital in Joplin, Mo., after an illness. She was 77.
Mrs. Widby was born March 24, 1932, in Marionville, Mo., to Daniel L. and Stella (Dycus) Schmidt. She moved to Miami in 1968. She graduated from Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Miami. She was a registered nurse and had worked at St. John s Hospital for 20 years. She was a Ottawa Tribe volunteer quilter.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward L. Widby on July 31, 1986, and her parents.
Survivors include one son, Ernest Widby of Cassville, Mo.; five daughters and their husbands, Edie and Jerry Graham, Brenda Pierce, Susan Barr and Peggy and Kyle Jackman, all of Miami, and Janet and Jim Coen of Coffeyville, Kan.; one brother, Daniel L. Schmidt of Martinez, Ga., 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Paul Thomas Funeral Home in Miami. The Rev. Mark Linn will officiate.
Burial will be in G.A.R. Cemetery in Miami.
Pallbearers will be Ryan Widby, Nathan Widby, Sean Coen, Logan Coen, Tera Latta and Lora Nall.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
