He was born March 16, 1936, in Cincinnati, Ohio, and lived in this area most of his life
He served with the U.S. Army, with the rank of 1st Sergeant, followed by service in the Indiana National Guard and the Indiana Guard Reserve, where he was currently active.
Bill worked for Delco-Remy Div. of General Motors for 38 1/2 years, retiring in 1993.
He was a member of BPOE Lodge 209, where he was past exalted ruler; life member of VFW Post 266; member of the honor guard, American Legion Post 117 and Masonic Lodge; and president of Madison County civic, fraternal and veterans organizations. He also coordinated the very first Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans' Parade in 1981.
He is survived by his wife, Lois (Smith) Church-Bell, whom he married Aug. 12, 1995; daughters, Kathy Bell of South Bend and Kara Beamer of Anderson; stepsons, Bill Church of Fishers and Tony Church of Plano, Texas; stepdaughter, Lana Moore of Pendleton; brother, Gerald Bell of California; sister, Joan (Robert) Prater of Anderson; grandchildren, Aaron Wellman, Zachary Beamer, Kiley Beamer, Cameron Church, Conner Church, Ryan Richardson and Reed Richardson; and several nieces and nephews
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald I. "Pete" and Marguerite (Smith) Bell; sister, Lola Eileen Endebrock; and former wife, Jeanne Bell.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Robert D. Loose Funeral Homes and Crematory, South Chapel, 200 W. 53rd St., Anderson, and will include a 7:30 p.m. memorial service by the Elks Lodge.
Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the South Chapel, officiated by Chaplain Ronnie Romans. Burial will take place at Marion National Cemetery.
