MOS: 2531 Field Radio Operator
William was born and raised in Chicago. He was the only child of Lucille Jagielski and Alex Nosek.
He graduated from Lane Tech High School, where he played on the football team. For being a big guy, he was quiet.
William was drafted and sent to the Marines.
Upon arriving in Vietnam, he was assigned to Battery Golf, 3rd Battalion, 12th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division. The company had incoming enemy mortar fire while in a defensive position.
William received fragmentation wounds and was medevac. Later, he was medevac out of Danang Naval Hospital to the USAF Hospital, Clark Air Force Base in the Philippine Islands. William died as a result of multiple fragmentation wounds to his back and chest, which resulted in shock and septicemia, sustained 1 July 1967 from hostile enemy fire.
William was single and served his country for 1 year, 5 months and 14 days and was KIA #15,181.
Tour of duty unknown.
He was 20 years, 10 months and 13 days old.
Survived by his parents, Alex E and Lucille Nosek of 1917 N Leavitt, Chicago, Illinois and uncles and aunts, Stanley and Maude Nosek, and Edward and Ann Nosek of Chicago, Illinois.
Funeral services conducted by the Drabanski Funeral Home, with Mass held at St Mary of the Angels Church.
