Henry Asbury Bullock was the son of James T. Bullock and Melinda Bledsoe. He had eight siblings: William Milton Bullock, Rebecca B. Bullock, Elizabeth Bullock, Mary Jane Bullock, Caroline Bullock, Durant Lane Bullock, James Terrell Bullock and Adeline Bullock.

Henry Asbury Bullock married Nancy F. Goss on January 25, 1847 in Granville County, North Carolina. They had seven children: William Milton Bullock, Sr., James Rowland Bullock, Mary M. Bullock, Elizabeth A. Bullock, Thomas Lane Bullock, Aretta Dulcy Bullock and Benjamin Henry Bullock.

On February 24, 1862, he enlisted in Granville, North Carolina as a Confederate Corporal. He was a member of the 46th North Carolina Infantry, Company E. On July 16, 1862, he was promoted to Full Private. On April 15, 1864, he was transferred out of the 46th North Carolina Infantry, Company E.

Henry Asbury Bullock was wounded in the hip during the Civil War. He was then transferred to the Navy, working out of Richmond, Virginia. One of the boats was the Roanoke.
