Ty was born July 20, 1960, in Idaho Falls and was 49 when he quietly passed away at home November 14, 2009, in Idaho Falls. He died after several years of battling the devastating effects of multiple sclerosis. Forty-nine years was too short a time to spend with this man who so avidly loved his children, the Lord, his family, friends and life.
Ty married Karla Fife on July 16, 1983, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They were later divorced. Ty managed several Schubach jewelry stores in Idaho Falls, Twin Falls and Denver. He returned home to Idaho Falls and worked for Century 21 and was later lured over to High Desert Reality, where everyone became his friend.
Ty loved golfing, a friendly game of poker with his friends and rodeoing. He had a beautiful black horse on which he loved riding through snowdrifts. Ty collected foreign money and gathered hats to go with each of his outfits -- he thought he was going bald and saw no reason to advertise it. He longed to go to Italy, eat a lot of Italian food and revisit England, where he served his mission -- a very memorable part of his life. He confessed that if he could, he would go back to school and study astronomy, but he finally had to admit that he had the disease which he shared with his brother, Rob.
Although he suffered a lot of pain, he was always cheerful, had a great sense of humor and would greet everyone with his great smile. He didn't talk a lot about himself, but unselfishly always wanted to know what was going on in other people's lives. He was also very intent on introducing them to unusual flavors of ice cream.
His family, his caretakers and his many friends will miss him terribly.
He left behind his children, Jared Tyler and Nicole; his granddaughter, whom he adored; mother, Margaret Madsen Hodges; siblings, Maralyn O. (Randy) Hulkovich, Brett S. (Carol) Olson and Rob Sid (Ann) Ahrendsen; and many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his father, John Julius Ahrendsen.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 18, at the LDS 14th Ward, 651 Gladstone. Services will be followed by a luncheon. Ty, on a later date, will be buried in Sugar City Cemetery next to his father. Arrangements are under the direction of Wood Funeral Home.
