Amanda was the daughter of Angeline and Henry Crosby. Her siblings were: Penny, Eveline, Polly, Nancy, Augustus, George N., Elizabeth, William Henry and John Crosby.

She became the wife of Franklin Poitevint who was born circa 1858 in Georgia. They were the parents of the following six children:

Willie Poitevint Posey, 1878-1935
Lena Poitevint, 1880-1963
Pernilla Poitevint Jones, b. ca 1877
Henry Columbus Poitevint, 1882-1950
Fannie Poitevint Snipes, ca 1886-1930
Thomas Gordon Poitevint, Sr., 1886-1958
