Violet was born February 26, 1921 to Myrtle Elizabeth Roylance and Emery Jay Thomas in North Ogden. She grew up on the family farm and graduated from Weber High School.
Violet married Ralph S. Checketts on October 23, 1940. They were later divorced. She married James O. Nicholls on January 10, 1987. They spent five years together dancing and traveling around the country.
Violet worked for the Internal Revenue Service in Ogden for many years.
She was a volunteer at the Golden Hours Center and was recognized by the City of Ogden for her many years of volunteering.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and held many positions in the Ogden Sixty-Second Ward.
Violet is survived by her daughters: JoAnn Schow, Vernal; Diann (Paul) Joos, Layton; Annette Kerbs, Roy; daughter-in-law, Avon Checketts; thirteen grandchildren; thirty-seven great-grandchildren; and twelve great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James, a daughter, Julie Ann Checketts, son, Dennis R. Checketts; and granddaughters, Amy Checketts and Jodi Schow.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, November 16, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Boulevard. Friends may call at the mortuary on Sunday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Monday from 1:00 to 1:45 p.m.
Interment: Lindquist's Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Boulevard.
