Obituary of Mrs. Bunch

Pamelia Taylor was born at St. Paris, Ohio, February 4th, 1834. She was married to W. B. Walker March 25th, 1852, at St. Paris, Ohio. To this union twelve children were born, six of whom survive to mourn the loss of a kind and noble mother. With her husband she united with the United Brethren church of which he became a minister and preached a number of years.

They moved to Iowa in 1851, and then to Kansas in 1864, where W.B. Walker died October 28th, 1875. She was married to W.P. Bunch, October 31, 1878. W.P. Bunch died February 22, 1903.

She died of paralysis, January 29, 1904, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Corda Steen, in Wellsville, Kansas, at the close of her sixty-ninth year. The funeral was held at the Baptist church, Rev. Hine officiating. Interment was in the Walnut Creek cemetery.

The relatives of Mrs. Bunch desire to thank all the friends who so kindly sympathized and assisted us during the sickness and death of our dear mother.

On 11 March 1935, Pamelia's daughter, Zilpah Cordella 'Corda' (Walker) Steen (age 62), wrote:

"My mother Pamelia Margret Taylor Walker was born Feb. 4 - 1833 near St. Paris, Ohio

Champaign Co. St. Paris Ohio

Daughter of Lemuel and Emily Noe Taylor

Dutch, French, and English nationality

Pamelia Margret Taylor Walker died Jan. 29 - 1904 in Wellsville Kansas, burried in the Walnut creek cemetary south of town.

My mother and family came to Wellsville to live Feb. 1881. Mother built her house in the spring. Joe & Frank, Lewis & L. C. did the work.

We had a family reunion at mothers home in Wellsville Kans. Oct. 26 - 1897 my brothers & sisters present were M. F. Walker. J. A. Walker. L. C. Walker Emma Henson, Ella Jones. & Corda Steen, Alice Barmore, and a number of the grandchildren."

In June 1984, Pamelia's granddaughter, Evalina (Walker) Hammond (age 91), wrote:

"The U.S. President Zachary Taylor was a second or third cousin of Pamelia.

Pamelia was a strong, knowledgable woman. She served well, knitted many things. I recall the little red mittens she knitted for me to wear to school. She could and did whatever needed to be done for her family and neighbors. She raised herbs that were used for medicine. I loved her; she was so kind and helpful."

NOTE: Thus far, no documentation has been found regarding kinship to President Zachary TAYLOR.
