Gary was born Aug. 15, 1941, in Blooming Grove to C.L. and Zola Gillen. He was a loving husband, father and brother, a good friend and neighbor. He was a generous man and cared for others. He worked for the Texas Department of Transportation and retired after 33 years of service. In 2004, Gary and Pat moved to Lakeland, Fla., from Austin to take care of Pat's mother until her death in 2008. He was a deacon at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Lakeland. In 2005, he battled cancer and subsequently, the next five years suffered severe continuing health problems. He accepted his tribulations and continued to praise the Lord until his death. He was an encouragement to others.
In Austin, Gary and Pat had been members of the First Baptist Church of Oakhill and they enjoyed working there many hours.
He was preceded in death by beloved son, Stacy Cole Gillen. He leaves to mourn him his wife of 43 years, Pat; brother, Paul (Paula) Gillen of Corsicana; sisters, Betty (Delton) Raley of Dawson and Wanda (Jimmy) Harris of Blooming Grove.I wish to thank family, friends, and neighbors who supported us with love and prayers during this long, hard journey.
