Dera Ann Thomas Ashby, widow of the late Robert Ashby, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, Nov. 9, 2009 with friends at her bedside. She was born Sept. 20, 1939, in Memphis, TN., the daughter of the late Johnnie Holland Thomas and Bill Thomas.
She later moved to Oak Ridge, TN, and was a graduate of Oak Ridge High School. She was also a graduate of Union University Nursing School, Jackson, TN. She was an RN and an educator in the Nursing Dept. at Jackson-Madison Co. General Hospital.
Dera loved her cats and gave a loving home to many. She will be loved and missed by all her friends and caregivers. She was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church.
She is survived by a cousin, Bobby Thomas of Bossier, LA; an aunt, Carolyn Yancey of Collierville, TN and Charlie Yancey of Collierville, TN.
A visitation and funeral service will be held Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. with funeral services at 6:30 p.m. in the chapel of Arrington Funeral Directors, with Father Charles Filiatreau officiating. A committal service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 13, 2009 at the Oak Ridge Memorial Park in Oak Ridge, TN.
The family has requested in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be directed to Best Friends Society, 5001 Angel Canyon Rd., Kanab, UT 84741.
