"Fireside Guards". mk He enlisted in Bennings Brigade, Hood's Division, Longstreet's Corps, Army of Northern Virginia, CSA in 1861. He was wounded at Malvern Hill, Virginia in 1862. He rejoined his unit before Geyysburg and fought at Devil's Den. On May 26, 1864 his right leg was badly bruised and had to be removed after the Battle of Hanover Junction in North Anna River, Virginia. He was the youngest of three brothers to servce the Confederacy and the only one to survive. He studied law before the war and later becasue Clerk of Elbert County Superior Court as well as an attorney. He married Lucy Glenn Broach on Dec. 9, 1868 in Elberton, Ga.
