Betty Jane Leighton-Floyd, 84, Humansville, died Monday, November 09, 2009 in St. John's Regional Hospital, Springfield.

The daughter of Walter Franklin and Mabel Clara (Zimmerschied) Gross, she was born May 1, 1925 at Kansas City.

She and Ralph Leighton-Floyd were married September 10, 1943. He preceded her in death March 31, 1993.

A longtime resident of Independence, she was employed by the Independence School District as the cafeteria purchasing agent for 15 years.

She and Ralph moved to Humansville from Independence in 1980. She was a member of Collins Christian Church, Elm Springs Club and the Humansville Senior Center.

Betty is survived by 4 children and their spouses, Diane and Larry McConnell, Independence, Jane and Tom Sandgren, Humansville, Julie and Ron Yancey, Independence and Charles and Melani Leighton-Floyd, Independence; 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, Edward and Jennifer Leighton-Floyd and son, Drake, Matthew and Holly Leighton-Floyd and sons, Kyle and Ryan, Jeff and Becky McConnell and children, Molly, Zamira, Zoe and Jacob, Doug and Tara McConnell and children, Halle and Levi, Sarah Sandgren, Roy Sandgren and daughter, Kaylee, Tim Thacker and Audrey Cudney and son, Isaac, and David and Audrey Thacker; 1 sister, Charlotte Brendel, Buckner, MO; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM Saturday, November 14, 2009 at Murray Funeral Home, Humansville with Rev. Gary Strickland, Rev. Bill Vernon and Elder Larry McConnell officiating.

Interment will be in Knob Noster Cemetery, Knob Noster. Visitation will be Saturday from 12:00 to 1:00 PM.
