Eugene (Gene) A. Kennedy, 72, died Saturday morning Nov. 20, in a local hospital after a brief illness

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, Nov 22 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev Jim Teeter, pastor and the Rev. Wallace Clay, pastor of the First Baptist Church officiating. Burial was in Chillicothe Cemetery.

Gene was born Feb 12, 1910 in Chillicothe, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. E.G. Kennedy. He had been a lifetime resident. He married Margaret Flynt on 17 Aug 1930 in Quanah.

A farmer and stockman, he was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge Number 876; a former chief of the Chillicothe Volunteer Fire Department, a former member of the City Council and past mayor pro tem.

He was also a member of the Hardeman ASCS office where he was a former chairman. He received the Outstanding Hardeman County Conservation Award in 1955, and was a honorary member of the Chillicothe FFA.

Surviving are four sons, Flynt Kennedy of Pittsburg, Penn., E.A. Kennedy Jr., of College Station, Lee Kennedy of Colleyville, and Clay Kennedy of Chillicothe; a sister, Mrs. Fern Cook of Vernon; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his wife on Jan 13, 1981.

Pallbearers were Jack Meharg, W.H. Lance, Curtis Justice, George Gatewood, Shorty Phillip and Silas Boone.
