Jimmie L. Blackford was born on March 18, 1923 in Drumright, Oklahoma to G.C. & Frankie (Bruce) Blackford. He passed from this life on July 2, 2007 at his home in Glenpool, Oklahoma at the age of 84 years, 3 months & 14 days.

Jimmie moved to the Liberty Mounds area in 1948 and had been a resident of the Glenpool community since the early 1950's. He worked as a welder for the City of Tulsa for many years until his retirement. He was proud to have served his country as part of the United States Army fighting in many areas of Europe during World War II where he earned the Purple Heart and other military medals of valor. He was a lifetime member of the 78th Infantry Division Association as well as a member of the Glenpool Veterans of Foreign Wars Post. He was a longtime member of the Glenpool First Baptist Church and served his church for many years as a deacon. He was a 32nd degree Master Mason and had served as the Worshipful Master of the Kiefer Masonic Lodge. Some of his favorite activities were fishing and race cars.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Margie J. (Burditt) Blackford whom he married on September 18, 1938 in Ulysses, Kansas. Other survivors include 1 daughter; Judy Burgess of Glenpool, 1 son; Terry Blackford and wife Wilma, of Hulbert, Oklahoma, 10 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild and a multitude of friends and church family. He was preceded in death by 1 son; Gary Blackford, 1 daughter; Nancy Montgomery & 1 grandson; Kyle Mathews.

Casket bearers were David Brandt, Rusty Flood, G.B. Fields, Kenny Kizer, Ken Beets & Ernie Terrell. Honorary bearers were Donald Lightner, T.J. Engle & Ivan Bell. Music was provided by Ron Baker and Jennifer Mathews. Military honors were provided courtesy of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1327.
