John B. Freeman was the son of Barteamus T. Freeman and Aretta Dulcy Bullock. He had five siblings: Thomas Graham Freeman, Nannie M. Freeman, Alma R. Freeman, Bessie Mae Freeman and Mamie Freeman.
In about 1906, John B. Freeman married Mary Shields. They had three children: Mamie Sue Freeman, Eugene Barnabas Freeman and Joseph Clifton Freeman.

John B. Freeman, 76, a retired farmer, died on Sunday, November 6. A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Newcomb Funeral Home with burial in Trinity Methodist Church Cemetery near Skipwith.
Surviving are two sons, Eugene B. Freeman of Burbank, California, and J. C. Freeman of Richmond; a daughter, Mrs. Mamie F. Allen of Randolph; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Allen Bullard of Newport News, and a sister, Mrs. Horace Reamey of Skipwith.
