"Surrounded by heavy fighting during the final battle before the WWI Armistice was signed, Edward F. Sander attempted to rescue a wounded soldier in France. However, he was struck by enemy fire and later died. He is buried at St. Mihiel Cemetery near Thiaucourt -- one of eight overseas American World War I cemeteries."
