Della Magel Borland, the daughter of Quimby and Virginia Painter Pierce, was born October 5, 1890 at Osceola, Iowa. She came with her parents as a young girl to a farm near Peterson. She was educated in schools near her childhood home and graduated from Peterson High School in 1908.
She was united in marriage at her parent's home on October 6, 1909 to David S. Borland. They farmed near Peterson and then lived at Hancock, Minnesota for ten years before returning to Peterson. She was a member of the United Methodist Church at Peterson, was a charter member of the Methodist Women and had been active in Farm Bureau work. For many years she enjoyed painting.
She passed away suddenly at the Sunset Apartments in Spencer on December 28, 1976 at the age of 86. Preceeding her in death were her parents, her husband in 1972 and ten brothers and sisters.
Left to cherish her memory are her two sons and their wives, Wendall and Helen of Lake Park and Howard and Marguerite of Santa Monica, California; two daughters and their husbands, Mrs. Walter (Helena) Terrell of Peterson and Mrs. Don (Beverly) Kass of Sioux City, Iowa, 13 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren as well as many other relatives and friends.
