During World War II she moved with her family to Hastings, Nebraska and attended public schools graduating in 1956 from Hastings, Nebraska Senior High School. Marilyn married Gerald "Jerry" E. Buttell Jr. on October 19, 1957 at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church.
Marilyn started working part time for Lincoln Telephone &Telegraph in 1955 and retired as a full time customer service representative in 2000. She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, St. Michael's Altar Society and Lochland County Club all in Hastings, Nebraska She was a former member of Lincoln Telephone & Telegraph Pioneer's.
Marilyn loved animals including the family bulldog Tuffy. She had a super green thumb when it came to caring for plants and flowers. Marilyn loved her family and adored her grandchildren.
