MARY BELLE IRBY AYCOCK

Mary Belle Irby Aycock, died Saturday, October 31, 2009 in the Calhoun Nursing Home in Edison, GA. She was 93. There will be a Graveside Service on Tuesday morning, November 3, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. in the Morgan City Cemetery with Rev. Mitch Friar officiating. The family will receive friends for a short visitation, Monday afternoon from 5 until 6 p.m. at Manry-Jordan-Hodges Funeral Home in Blakely, GA. Mrs. Aycock was a native of Lower Peach Tree, AL, in Wilcox County. She was the daughter of the late William Shockley Irby and Ina McGriff Irby and a sister of the late Thomas McGriff Irby. She was born Nov. 25, 1915. She attended school grades 1-11 at the Lower Peach Tree School and graduated from Thomas-ville School in Thomasville, AL in 1933. Mrs. Aycock received a Batchelor of Science Degree from Alabama College for Women in Montevallo, AL in 1938. She taught Home Economics and General Science in Alabama Schools for 10 years and in the Morgan, GA High School for three years. She was the Extension Home Economist in Lee and Calhoun Counties of Georgia for 21 years, retiring in 1985. She was a member of the Morgan Baptist Church, National Retired Teachers Association, Early-Calhoun Retired Teachers Association, Edison Garden Club, Peter Early Chapter of the D.A.R., National Association of American Home Economics, American Association of Retired People and the Golden Key Club. She had married the late Mercer Aycock on Dec. 30, 1947. She is survived by nephew & nieces, Thomas M. Irby of Huntsville, AL, William S. Irby of Lower Peach Tree, AL, Frank M. Irby, Okeechobee, FL, Sara Jean Irby Burke of Atlanta, GA, Cliff Aycock and Alvin Aycock of Morgan, GA. She was preceded in death by a niece, Maxine Irby Johnston of Vicksburg, MS. She also had many grand and great grand nephews and nieces. Gifts in memory of Mrs. Aycoclk should be sent to the Morgan Baptist Church, P.O. Box 32, Morgan, GA 39866.
