CHICO NATIVE BURIED FRIDAY
Services were held Friday at Chico Baptist Church for Mary Stanton Matthes, 71, of Lubbock, formerly of Chico. Burial was in Chico Cemetery. Mrs. Matthes died Tuesday, March 15 in Lubbock.
Pallbearers were Henry Brower, Ralph Bass, Claud Coble, Burgess Largent, Everett Johns and George Morrow.
Mrs. Matthes, born Dec. 13, 1905 in Chico, was a former teacher at Brantley-Draughn Business College in Fort Worth.
Survivors include a son, Karl Matthes of Lubbock; sister, Sarah Gantt of Port Arthur; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Arrangements were handled by Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport.
