Superior Man Suffocates.

Superior, Neb., June 22. - One of the most appalling deaths that has occured (sic) in Superior for a long time was the death by suffocation in his room in the Collete building last night of R. K. Sheffer, who has lived in Superior over thirty years.

Mr. Sheffer was in the habit of reading after retiring. Frequently he would fall asleep and let the lamp burn all night. It Is believed that this is what he did last night. About 2 o'clock smoke was detected in the hall, but nothing serious was thought of it. At 6 o'clock the smoke became more noticeable and several of the occupants of the upstairs began to search for its origin. It was finally traced to the room occupied by Mr. Sheffer.

When the door was forced open Mr. Sheffer was found lying on the floor partly dressed. He was barely alive and the room was filled with smoke. The lamp had exploded. Physicians were called but their efforts were of no avail and he died an hour later.
