Emmons, George's 5th son & Tilda's 1st boy, came into the family on a Friday, Feb 13, 1903. He attended elementary school at Bonneville, the Portables, formerly on South Arthur & West Halliday, & Whittier in Pocatello. When he was about 13 he attended the one-room log schoolhouse on Mercer Creek in the Garden Creek Basin for a couple of months while staying at [his half-brother] Stanley's homestead. He was enrolled in Pocatello High School for the first half of the 9th grade.
At 15 years of age he started working for the Union Pacific Railroad as an office boy & worked for that company, mostly in office positions, until 1931. He spent some time in Montana working on farms in the Flathead Valley the next year. Emmons taught in elementary schools & junior high schools in Idaho, Utah & Washington. He retired after teaching in the Renton School District in suburban Seattle. He was also on the faculty of Idaho State University for one school year.
Emmons received degrees from Brigham Young University & the University of Utah. He earned a junior college diploma & his teaching certificate from the former Southern Branch of the University of Idaho. He worked with Boy Scouts in the [LDS Church] 6th Ward for many years. One of his hobbies was photography. Following retirement in 1968 he moved to Buckley, WA, where he & [his wife] Margaret bought & remodeled an old home. Their property included a minifarm & forest of 4 acres. Gardening & grandchildren helped to keep them busy.
Emmons married Margaret Ellen Day of Preston, ID, in 1935. Two children were born to them: Carolyn Mae (1938) & Michael Day (1941). Both were graduates of BYU & residents of the Seattle area. As of 1982, Carolyn had 2 children & Michael 7. Carolyn taught elementary school in the Renton School District. Michael, meanwhile, was employed by the Weyerhouser Co. Margaret was a nurse at Harborview Medical Center & Hospital in Seattle for more than 15 years; she retired in 1975.
Emmons died in 1984; Margaret followed in 2002.
