Chanute- Czerna E. Carlson, 88, died Sunday, March 30, 2003 at the Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center, Chanute, Kansas.

She was born June 11, 1914 at Industry, Illinois the daughter of W. Roy Hill and Mary (Beaver) Hill.

She had been a resident of Chanute, Kansas since 1929 and graduated from Chanute High School. She worked for Self Service Grocery for many years and later was a bank teller for the Bank of Commerce until her retirement in December of 1979.

She was a member of the Community of Christ Church, Chanute, Kansas.

She enjoyed oil painting and had taken several painting classes at the Neosho County Community College here in Chanute.

On October 20, 1933 she married George M. Carlson, Sr. in Chanute, Kansas. He preceded her in death on August 16, 1998.

Survivors include one son, Dale N. Carlson of Chanute, Kansas; one daughter, Janice Jamriska of San Clemente, California; 3 sisters, Mildred Earnest of Independence, Missouri, Charlotte Guinnee of Temple, Texas, Marjorie Stowell of Lee's Summit, Missouri; 7 Grandchildren; 12 Great Grandchildren; and 1 Great-Great Grandchild. She was preceded in death by her son, George M. Carlson, Jr. and a brother, Lloyd Hill.

Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 2, 2003 at Gibson-Koch-Friskel Chapel led by Larry Mallett and Bob Hamm. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 1, 2003 from 7:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral chapel.

Burial will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery, Chanute, Kansas.

The family suggests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Community of Christ Church, both in care of the funeral chapel. Gibson-Koch-Friskel Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
