Wellsboro Gazette, Thursday, July 30, 1903, p. 5
Earl Ames, aged 22, son of David Ames of Arnot, last week Tuesday afternoon met with what will probably prove a fatal accident. He was working in the woods in the Black Forest region when a tree fell and struck him on the back of the neck, doubling him up under its weight. His back was broken and his left shoulder dislocated. He was placed on a log car which was run nine miles down to Slate Run. Dr. W. E. Delaney attended him, and he was afterward taken to the Blossburg hospital. His lower extremities are paralyzed, and there is little hope that he will recover.
