Mrs. Mary Evelyn Johnson, 82, of Nacogdoches, passed away Saturday, October 17, 2009, in Nacogdoches. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, October 22, 2009, at the Laird Funeral Home chapel in Nacogdoches with the Rev. Don Ansohn officiating, and burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. Mary was born on March 30, 1927, in Salmon Switch, Texas, the daughter of the late John Roland and Mary Bell Kilgo Dickey. She was a self-employed business woman and owner of the Youth Shop, in Nacogdoches, a member of First Christian Church and a member of Eastern Star. She and A. L. Johnson were childhood sweethearts; they met when Mary was in fifth grade, he was in the seventh and after he was out of the military January 19, 1946, they were married. In addition to her husband of 63 years, A.L.; Mary is survived by a daughter, Patsy McNew and husband, Ron, of Fort Worth, Texas; a son, Dickey Johnson and wife, Gladney Flatt Johnson, of Dallas, Texas; four grandchildren, Rachel Johnson and Megan Johnson of Nacogdoches, Clif Johnson of New York City, New York, and Breckin Loggins and wife, Shara, of College Station, Texas. Also surviving is special cousin, Hila Sue Wilkerson and husband, Wyman of Lumberton, North Carolina, as well as other relatives and friends. Laird Funeral Home.
