Louisiana Governor. He attended Parsons Business College, graduated from Tulane University Law School in 1915, and became an attorney in Lake Charles. After serving as City Attorney, in 1924 he was elected to the Louisiana Senate as a Democrat. He had decided not to seek reelection in 1932 and was serving as the Senate's President Pro Tempore after Governor Huey P. Long had been elected to the United States Senate, but before Long had resigned as Governor. Lieutenant Governor Paul N. Cyr attempted to declare the governorship vacant and take the oath himself, which resulted in his removal from office. King then became acting Lieutenant Governor, and when Long finally took the oath of office as a US Senator, King ascended to the governorship and served the remainder of Long's term, January to May 1932. After leaving office he returned to his Lake Charles law practice, also serving as President of the Louisiana Bar Association from 1952 to 1953.
