My 4th Great Grandpa. Frederick Garst (Gerst / Gherst), 7th child of Johann Theobald (Dewalt) Gerst, Jr. and his wife, Susannah (maiden name unknown).

Frederick Garst married Elizabeth Hoffman in Mt. Joy, Lancaster Co., PA. They had four children all born in Mt. Joy, Lancaster Co., PA:
1. Catherine (born 1800, died 1881)
2. Peter (born 1808, died 1887)
3. Jacob (born 1809, died 1850)
4. Nancy Emma (m Abraham Bender Hunsberger)

Census: 25 Nov 1850, age 70, Green, Summit Co., OH, living with son, Jacob and Elizabeth (Bender) Gerst.

According to son-in-law, Abraham Bender Hunsberger in 1876, "Fred'k Gerst was a son of German parents whose settlement was in Eastern PA. ... It was in 1821 when my father with his family came and settled down in Ohio. In a few years later the Gerst family also came and settled down on an 80 acre lot of wild land adjoining my father's land so that the two families were then near neighbors." His wife died 28 May 1846. "In a few years more, Jacob Gerst died and still later, father Gerst died. ... The five [Frederick Gerst, Elizabeth Hoffman Gerst, her brother, Jacob Hoffman, her mother, Unknown (maiden name unknown also) Hoffman, and their son, Jacob Gerst], were buried in a small graveyard in the southeast corner of the old Dillman farm." Klinefelter Cemetery, Green, Summit Co., OH.

When the cemetery was photographed in 2005 there was no stone found. Our only known record of his being buried here is the 1876 above letter.
