Ezra was the husband of Mary "Polly" (McFadden) Peterson (1793-1867) and the son of James Edward (Sutton) Peterson and Elizabeth (Abbott) Peterson. He married Mary on July 8, 1813 in Crawford County, Pennsylvania. Ezra and Mary had at least nine children including: David, Rosanna, Theophilus, Jesse, Elizabeth, Ragan, Howard, Isaiah and Sarah Peterson. Of note: Ezra's grandfather was Thomas Coates Sutton (1715-1803). Ezra's father, James Edward Peterson, actually changed his surname after the Revoultionary War, but before 1793, from "Sutton" to "Peterson." His family used the surname "Peterson" from that point on.

War of 1812. Served in Captain Thomas Hamlin's Co. 137 Reg. PA Military Infantry from January 1, 1814 to February 8, 1814. His Record of Burial Place of Veteran--Crawford County PA indicates that he is buried in Grave 1 of Old Geneva in Greenwood Twp. and has a marble headstone. 59y 6m.
