Virility of the German Pioneers who largely settled and developed Sheboygan County, was never better demonstrated than in the life of Mrs Ida Winkel, who died Tuesday afternoon at 5 o'clock at the home of her daughter Mrs Minnie Perronne, at Howards Grove. When Mrs Winkel's remains were brought to their last resting Saturday they will be followed by 204 descendants.
This splendid woman is survived by 11 children, who mourn her sincerely as a loving and helpful mother and this sorrow is shared by 81 grandchildren and 112 great-grandchildren, nearly all of who live in Sheboygan and Manitowoc Counties and all of whom will be mourners at the funeral.
Mrs Winkel was born, Ida Siede, daughter of Carl Siede, early town of Herman pioneer. Born in Germany, September 4, 1838, she came to this country with her parents when she was 14 years of age. The family settled in the town of Herman and there, Mrs Winkel grew up was married and spent her life. She married early in life to Gottfried Winkel and they took up a farm in the town of Herman.
Mr Winkel died 20 years ago and from then on the widow reared the family members of which are now widely known and respected.
Mrs Winkel some years ago turned over the farm to a daughter and son-in-law and when that daughter died she went to make her home with her daughter Mrs. Perronne. She had always enjoyed vigorous health until last spring and then her illness was not serious. The malady that resulted in her death became apparent three months ago, since which time she has been a invalid.
The survingin children are Herman, Meeme; Frederick, Schleswig; Carl, Loui and Gustave, Herman; Mrs Augusta Krueger, Colby; Mrs Ida Minster, Sheboygan; Mrs Minnie Perronne, Howards Grove; Mrs Barbara Grunewald, Herman; Mrs Marie Klueger, Sheboygan; Mrs Anna Marbes, Boltonville.
The funeral is to take place Saturday afternoon, 1 o'clock at the Perronne home; 1:15 at the Herman Church in charge of the Rev Ottmar Schmidt.
Buried will be in Trinity Cemetery, Town of Herman.
