Fannie Catherine Scott Ballard, age 88, passed away on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at Horizon Bay Assisted Living in Concord, NC.

The funeral will be 2:00pm Saturday, February 9th, 2013 at Cold Springs United Methodist Church where she will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service, officiated by Reverend Dr. Tony Bell and Reverend Mary Hatley. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The Ballard family will receive friends 4-5pm, on Friday, February 8th, 2013 at Gordon Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant.

She was born March 12, 1924 in Cabarrus County daughter of the late Charles Franklin Scott and Lillie Emma Smith Scott and the wife of the late Dewey Eugene Ballard. Dewey and she were married for over 59 years. Kerr Bleachery in Concord employed Fannie for over 20 years until the plant was destroyed by fire. She then did volunteer work for CMC NorthEast, formally called Cabarrus Hospital, for 10 years. She was a member of Cold Springs United Methodist Church.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Dewey in 2003, her parents, two sisters, Bertha Scott Ross and Annie Belle Scott Rinehardt and three brothers, Frank Scott, Houston Scott and George Scott, who died as an infant. She was also preceded by her daughter, Judy Diane Ballard Fisher in April 2012.

Survivors include her son, Jerry Wayne Ballard and wife Brenda, granddaughter Anne- Marie Key and husband Todd, great-grand-daughter Mary Katherine Key, and son-in-law Eddie Fisher all from Concord, NC.

The Ballard family wishes to thank the professional staff at Horizon Bay and Hospice of Cabarrus County for the excellent care and friendship that they showed to Fannie. She resided at Horizon Bay for the past 2 ½ years and she thought of the staff and residents as her "family."

Memorials may be sent in Fannie's name to Cold Springs United Methodist Church 2550 Cold Springs Road, Concord, NC 28025.
