BREMEN - Charles F. Beery, 82, of Bremen, passed away on Friday, October 23, 2009, in the Bremen Health Care Center. He was born on January 15, 1927, in Kansas City, MO, to Fredrick and Matilda (Peters) Beery.

On September 4, 1949, he married Christine D. Bokhart, who survives.

Charles graduated from Bremen High School in 1945 and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a machinist, retiring from Dodge Mfg. in Mishawaka where he was a union steward, then retiring from Universal Bearings in Bremen. He was a member of Bremen Bible Church in Bremen, member of Bremen VFW, served on the town board of Bremen, representing Bremen on a trip to Bremen, Germany, for the Bicentennial in 1976, and was on Taper Lock Credit Union's board of directors and was a driver for Meals on Wheels. Charles could converse on a variety of subjects and was well-read - he built his home with the guidance of carpentry books.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Christine Beery of Bremen; a daughter, Gloria (Thomas) McMichael of Onsted, MI; three sons, Charles (Jackie) Beery of Kendallville, Ed (Pamela) Beery of Bremen, Dennis (Billi) Beery of Elkhart; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, Alvin (Charlene) Beery of Bremen and a sister, Pat (Dennis) Richey of Elkhart.

He was preceded in death by his parents, twin infant brother and sister, and a grandchild.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, Oct. 27, in the Bremen Bible Church and will be officiated by Pastor Dr. Duane Beals. Burial will follow at Bremen Cemetery with full military honors. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Monday, Oct. 26, 2009, in the Mishler Funeral Home, Bremen, and may call one hour before service in the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bremen Bible Church or to the Alzheimer's Association . The Mishler Funeral Home in Bremen is assisting the family with arrangements.
