Ralph Curtis Sr. grew up in Saguache, left to serve in WWI, later returned and ranched at the family ranch and the Cochetopa for forty years. He married Sara Chapman from Creede in the 1920's, after discharge from Central Machine Gun officers training in Camp Hancock GA.

They lived downtown until the early forties when they bought the Means home and ranch on top of the hill in Saguache.

Ralph was an avid hunter, and often had a side of something hanging on the rail outside the Means place. In the summers he stayed at the sheep camp on the Cochetopa, and tended the herds.

Ralph and Sara had two sons, Ralph Jr. and Charles Glenn.

Ralph Sr. retired in the 1960's and moved with Sara to Monte Vista.
