Cynthia was a daughter of Joel Cornelius and Mary "Polly" Easley of Blount County Alabama. She first married John Burgess Dupree June 9, 1859 in Blount County. John died during the Civil War. Two sons were born to this couple: Marion H. and John Burgess Jr.

She married George Washington Tidwell July 5,1866 in Blount County. Eight known children were born to this marriage: Thomas Jefferson, Mary Elzira, Joel Adams, Emma Lou, Louella, Solomon, and twins Miriam A. and Martha Serena.

George and Cynthia came to Texas prior to 1880 and lived initially in Johnson County, then in Comanche County, and finally moved to Dallas County.
