Hartley Luther Petersen, the son of Anker B. and Lydia (Petersen) Petersen, was born on Jan. 15,1925 at Hardy, Neb. He passed away on Jan. 27,2007 at his home near Hardy, Neb. at the age of 82 years and 12 days.

Hartley attended the rural Wiemer Grade School and graduated from Ruskin High School.

He was a lifelong member of the Bethany Lutheran Church being baptized on Feb. 15, 1925 by Rev. J. C. Carlsen and confirmed on May 21, 1939 by Rev. P. J. Vammen.

He was united in marriage to Ethel Jane Nelsen on June 9, 1946 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hardy, Nebraska and to this union was born five children. He lived his entire life in the rural Ruskin-Hardy areas.

At one time he was Bethany Church Council President, a Sunday School Superintendent and teacher, member of the church choir, member of the Lions Club, member of the school board and was employed with Channel 4 TV for 15 years.

He liked to fish in his spare time when he wasn't busy with his farm work and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Ellis Petersen.

He is survived by his wife, Ethel Jane Petersen of Hardy, Neb.; children, Beverly (John) Wemhoff of Platte Center, Neb.; Roger (Cindy) Petersen of Hebron; Rosann (Tim) Gettis of Hillsboro, Ore.;Arlo (Ava) Petersen of Ruskin and Wayne (DeeAnn) Petersen of Nora; 15 grandchildren, Theresa
(Kenneth) Mitchell of Columbus, Brian Wemhoff of Columbus, Barbara (Christopher) Johnson of Platte Cente; CMK2 Paul Wemhoff based in Virginia, Jessica Wemhoff of Lincoln, Derek (Christy) Farnstrom of Hebron, Kyla Petersen
of Lincoln, Paige Petersen of Hebron, Gregory Gettis and Alison Gettis of Hillsboro Ore.; Eric (Jessica) Reinsch of Davenport and Andrea,Emily, Amanda and Daniel Petersen of Nora; five great-grandchildren, Dylan and Jane Johnson
of Platte Center, Colton Wemhoff of Minatare and MacKenzie and Bailee Gettis of Hillsboro, Ore.; four sisters, Eunice (Rev. Reid) Neve of Omaha, Jeanette Lubkemann of Omaha, Marilyn (Marvin) Meyer of Omaha, Marietta Stenson of Superior; one brother, Lyle (Beverly) Petersen of Blue Hill;
one sister-in-law, Bonita (Mient) Bakker of Madison, Wisc., along with a host of nieces, nephews,other relatives and friends.

Services were held Wednesday, Jan. 31, at 2 p.m. from Bethany Lutheran Church in Ruskin, with Rev. Evelyn Phillips officiating.

Music was "Amazing Grace," "In The Garden," "How Great
Thou Art" and "Precious Lord, Take My Hand" with Dorcas Judy as organist.

Pallbearers were Larry Judy, Bruce Christensen, Brian Wemhoff, Eric Reinsch, Derek Farnstrom, Kenneth Mitchell, CM2 Paul Wemhoff, Sfc Christopher Johnson, Gregory Gettis and Daniel Petersen.

Interment was in the Spring Creek Cemetery at Ruskin,
Neb.

Memorials may go in care of the family.

Megrue-Price Funeral Home of Superior, Neb. was
in charge of the arrangements.
