Donald Christian Petersen, one of three children of Lawrence Petersen and Cora Goldbeck Petersen, was born on the family farm four miles south of Ruskin, Nebraska, March 15, 1926, and passed away February 15, 1985, in the Parkview Haven Rest Home in Deshler, Nebraska, at the age of 58 years and 11 months.

He was baptised April 18, 1926, at Bethany Lutheran Church and was confirmed June 1, 1941, at Bethany Lutheran Church. Donald attended rural school #29 and Ruskin High School, graduating from there. After his service time, he attended Dana College. He served his country in the Army during World War II.

December 3, 1950, in Spencer, Iowa, he was married to Margrethe Hansen. This union was blessed with five children.

He was a 25 year member of the Lions Club, a member of the Ruskin American Kolling Post #242, American Lutheran Church Men, Danish Brotherhood and Disabled American Veterans. He served Bethany Lutheran Church in the following capacities, Sunday School teacher and superintendent, deacon and church treasurer.

He enjoyed farming and was an avid sports fan. Woodworking was his favorite hobby.

Preceding him in death were his parents, a son, Steven, and a brother, David.

Survivors left to mourn his passing and cherish his memories are his wife, Margarethe of the home; 3 sons, David and his wife, Karen, and Paul and his wife, Marcella, all of Ruskin, and Mark and his wife, Dianne, of Juniata; a daughter, Carol Petersen of Ruskin; a brother, William of Franksville, Wisconsin; and 3 grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 19, 1985, at 2:00 p.m. from the Bethany Lutheran Church in Ruskin, Nebraska, with Pastor John Plowman officiating. Music was provided by Hartley Petersen, soloist, singing "Amazing Grace" and "Children Of The Heavenly Father". Congregational hymns "Rock of Ages" and "I Know Of A Sleep In Jesus Name" were sung with Hildegarde Hansen as organist and accompanist. Casketbearers were: Vernon Kaldahl, Alvin Jensen, Doyle Christensen, Thorkild Kastrup, Harold Hansen and Eldon Sorensen. Burial was in the Springcreek (sic) Cemetery near Ruskin, Nebraska, with military rites by the Ruskin American Legion Kolling Post #242. Megrue-Price Funeral Home of Superior, Nebraska, was in charge of the arrangements.
