Edward Hulbert was born in Berlin, Connecticut. His brothers were Abijah and James Hulbert. He moved to the south in the 1840's first to Alabama and then to Augusta, GA where he and his brothers were Carriage Makers. Edward then went to West Point and served as agent of the Atlanta and West Point Railroad. Next, he became Superintendent of the Southern Division of Adams Express Company. He then went on to become Superintendent of the Southern Department of the Express Service, Superintendent of the Western and Atlantic Railroad and Superintendent of the Construction and Transportation Dept. of the Brunswick and Albany Railroad. He was largely instrument in the conception and building of the Georgia Pacific Railway. Much of Edward's life was spent in Atlanta, GA. He was an accomplished scholar, a great statitician, writer and speaker who fostered home enterprises and stimulated industries of various kinds. Governor Bullock was pallbearer at his funeral.
