Charles was the son of Jefferson Ray and Eva Lee Dowling Arnold, whose families were pioneers in Florida's early history. He attended the University of Florida and graduated from Rollins College with a BS Degree in Business Administration. Following graduation from Rollins he played in the New York Yankee's baseball farm team as a pitcher. He served his country as an Officer in the U.S. Army Air Corp as a flight and bombardier instructor. He is predeceased by his brothers, Jefferson and Julian; sisters, Frances Cole and Lucille Schultz and grandson, Kirk A Arnold and is survived by his children, Jeff(Colleen), Ellen, James, Chris (Peggy) and Stacey (Scott) Bevin; grandchildren, Mark (Jaime), Amanda Arnold, Aimee DeLindo, Jon (Kristy), Holly (Robbie) Bostic and Amanda Martin: 6 great-grandchildren; sister Katherine (Don) Herzog of Naples, FL and sister-in-law, Alice Roberts Arnold (Julian) of Kendall, FL.
