William Barr arrived in Philadelphia from Ireland in 1833. On 19 February 1839, he married Rebecca Colguhoun/Calhoun at the Ninth Presbyterian Church. He signed a Petition for citizenship on 12 October 1840. Their children included Mary, William, Alexander C., John A., Robert C., and Rebecca C.,(in addition to five (5) stillborn children).
