Robert "Bob" M. Brownlee, 73, of Battle Creek, MI, died Saturday, October 03, 2009 at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo, MI. He was born September 16, 1936 in Westbrook, ME the son of David L. and Delma O. (Sweet) Brownlee. Robert received his Master's Degree in Political Science from Western Michigan University, served in the US Navy as a corpsman from 1954 to 1956 and was a government and economics teacher at Lakeview High School, known to many as "Boston Bob", until retiring in 1995. He also taught political science at Kellogg Community College for 18 years. He was a life long member of the "Bronzy Club" of Portland, Maine.

Robert is survived by his wife of 50 Years: Nancy A. (Simpson) Brownlee; children: Julie Brownlee, Mark and Ann Brownlee, Bruce Brownlee, Sandra Brownlee Jones and Dennis Stansbery, John and Tina Brownlee and Scott Brownlee; grandchildren: Ben, Jillian, Megan, Derek and Miranda, Sara, Derick, Ryan and Katie, Damon, Nathan and Robert; great-grandchildren: Kaden and Evan; Brother: Ted and Linda Brownlee; and sister: MaryLou Carlson. He was preceded in death by his parents; and infant sister: Janice Brownlee.

Robert was a past president of the Lakeview Education Assoc, the department head of the Social Studies Dept. at Lakeview High School, member of the American Legion, founder and first president of the Young Republican Club at Western Michigan University, served as a delegate to county and state conventions for over 20 years and was on the Battle Creek Charter Committee to rewrite the City Charter.

He received the Outstanding Educator Award from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation numerous times. He served on the Ft. Custer National Cemetery honor guard for many years. He was a member of the Gull Lake View Country Club and was a member of the "Hackers Group". Robert was an avid reader and golfer. He loved playing cards, spending summers in Maine and attending his grandchildren's sporting events.

Visitation will be held at Bachman Hebble Funeral Service on Tuesday, October 6, 2009, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. The Memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at the First Wesleyan Church with Pastor Gary T. Cantrell of Gull Lake Bible Church officiating. Burial will be at the Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, MI.
